About Kasbah Du Toubkal – Atlas Mountains, Imlil, Marrakech, Morocco

Kasbah Du Toubkal was renovated to provide a range of accommodation options in the trailhead village of Imlil in the Moroccan High Atlas.  It is named after the highest mountain in North Africa Jbel Toubkal 4,167 mtrs.  The base camp is a short day’s walk from the Kasbah Du Toubkal.  The Kasbah has 14 ensuite rooms and 3 shared dormitory options.  The Kasbah is entirely staffed by members of the local community.

The business is a friends-and-family-owned operation with a heavy sustainable social dimension.  The hotel was developed by Discover Ltd (the UK owners) but only because Mike McHugo had worked in the valley for 10 years with a local partner before his brother Chris spotted the derelict building and suggested they see who owned it.  Opened in 1995, the Kasbah is a welcoming environment for those seeking comfortable mountain refuge, and for those who wish for superb rooms in a stunning setting.

Our impact on the local community and more

The owner of Kasbah Du Toubkal, Mike McHugo, founded Education for All Morocco, a charity providing boarding houses and scholarghips for nearly 100 girls from local communities.  Visit http://www.efamorocco.org for more information.

All accommodation prices are subject to a 5% levy, which goes to the Associations des Bassins d’Imlil which provides amongst other services – Rubbish Collection and disposal, 4×4 ambulance service, community bath house (hammam), and community outreach, and also supports initiatives to help girls continue their education when this requires staying away from home.

Additionally, the Kasbah staffs 100% from the local community and sources locally as much as quality will allow.  The Kasbah also runs an initiative to reduce PET bottled water in favor of spring water.
