Coral Cay Conservation – Philippines

About Coral Cay Conservation, Philippines – Gap Years and Ocean Voluntourism

With more than 26 years as a specialist in coral reef and forest conservation, Coral Cay Conservation has established itself as an award-winning internationally renowned leader in community-based gap years and ocean voluntourism through marine conservation expeditions.  Set up by Pete Raines MBE, Coral Cay is a prime mover in raising awareness of the damage to coral reef and forest ecosystems around the world.

Coral Cay Conservation was instrumental in having the Belize Barrier Reef declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.  Since then it has established successful marine conservation projects in Honduras, Fiji, Eritrea, Mexico, Malaysia, Thailand, Tobago, Philippines, and Cambodia improving the livelihoods of countless people through more efficient management of their natural resources.

Coral Cay Conservation is currently operating expeditions in the Philippines and Cambodia and is adding a turtle conservation project in Sri Lanka.

Our impact on the local community and more

We are committed to involving local stakeholders so that the communities we work with can benefit directly from our conservation efforts.  We rely on a ‘bottom-up’ approach to conservation, with the belief that the only way to successfully preserve endangered ecosystems is by involving the local custodians throughout the process.

Unlike many gap year and career break organisations, Coral Cay Conservation is a charitable trust.  Due to our global reputation in the marine conservation world, we are invited by governments and international NGO’s to assist them in completing their scientific research on coral reef systems around the world.  By joining one of our expeditions you can be sure that your presence in the expedition country has been requested by the local community as part of their own conservation efforts.

Coral Cay Conservation offer an experience like no other.  We strive to bring our conservation volunteers the most unique and satisfying expedition.  Whatever you are looking for, whether it is a sabbatical, career break, gap year, new diving experience, voluntary work abroad or just simply looking to broaden your horizons and try something new and exciting, we have the opportunity of a lifetime for you.
